Pain

This poem was inspired by the book ‘Purpose for the Pain‘ by Renee Yohe. If anyone has heard of the charity group To Write Love On Her Arms, the chances are you will have heard of her collection of journals. If you haven’t, please look them up, they are a fantastic charity organisation and they do some amazing work.

Reading the pain in those pages,
It was one of the hardest books I’ve read.
Because it was like looking in a mirror,
I could finally see who I was.
Like you could see my soul,
Even though you don’t even know my name.
You’ll never know my story,
But I feel like I lived yours,
In my own way.

My pain will never be yours,
But for a while, yours became mine.
I felt these people miles away from me,
Suddenly understood me.
They had been through it too,
These people who could hold their heads high.
I wanted to get to that stage,
To reach the light at the end of the tunnel.
Hope isn’t dead.

If it wasn’t for you all,
Going before me,
Trying to make the world,
A much better place,
I wouldn’t be so strong.
I’ve depended on you,
More than you will ever know.
I wear the t-shirt with pride,
Knowing that someone out there,
May need it as much as I did.

Pushing

You don’t even know me that well,
I’m not sure you know me at all.
I’ve barely said anything to you,
And yet you act like there’s a connection.
You keep trying to push me,
To do things I don’t want to.
You don’t pick up the hints,
That if you keep pushing me,
You’ll only end up pushing me away.

I’m trying to talk with you,
But your mind has only one thought.
Are you even really interested at all?
Or are you just trying to fulfil a need?
Stop pretending you don’t notice when,
I change the topic to something normal.
Are you even listening to me now,
When I say its making me uncomfortable?

I hate to tell you I told you so but,
If this keeps going on I’ll have to,
Let you down.
Because as far as I can see,
You’re only out for one thing,
And even though I’ve tried to tell you
You’re pushing me further away.

Breaking Free

summerregrets17

Looking back on the past,
When I was stuck in a trap,
Closed in a box forever.

They say the truth will set you free,
But it never worked for me.
I broke out of the box myself,
And you’ll never get me back in it again.

Because breaking free from it all,
Was more than just leaving it behind,
It was a fight for my soul.

You may not agree that I’m better now,
But that’s only your opinion,
I don’t need your rules and teachings,
Because I’m learning from life itself.

First Time

This isn’t the first time,
A ‘friend’ has turned on me,
But it is the first time,
That I haven’t believed a word of it.

Throw your words at me,
If you really think it will hurt,
You clearly never really knew me,
If you think I value your opinion.

It is the very first time,
That I have had no doubt you’re wrong,
And it’s not the first time,
You’ve said these words.

Even when we where ‘friends’,
You weren’t exactly nice,
Calling me a bitch,
And making others laugh at me.

I’ll let you in on a secret though,
Even if you don’t believe it,
You have no friends here,
And you aren’t the centre of the world.

It turns out I’m the nice one.
But I’m guessing this won’t be the first time,
You’ve heard someone say ‘go away’.

Not A Lost Cause

You are not a lost cause.
It’s not always a bad thing,
To be an outcast.
You can see what others don’t.

You can do all things.
Decide where you want to go,
And you will get there.
There are people to help you.

You are a special person.
The world will need you,
They just don’t know it yet.
You will do powerful things.

Speak your words in kindness,
And they will hear you,
People need you,
And you are loved.

The Upper Hand

The fight’s not over yet,
So don’t rule me out.
You haven’t beat me,
Never underestimate me.

I will come back stronger,
So don’t relax just yet.
You didn’t win the battle,
And you’ll never win the war.

I’m learning from all the lessons
You’re throwing at me.
Life hasn’t got the better of me
And you no longer have the upper hand.

You should never overlook someone,
Because you don’t know what they can do
Everyone has their strengths
And we can all learn to fly.
